MAC has some of the best nudes out there. Freckletone and Taupe are two of my favorites, and seeing how well these two shades worked for me, I decided to try Hug Me.
The official website calls it a “flesh pink” but on me it’s more of a pinkish brown. It’s a lustre finish so there’s some shine to it, but it won’t necessarily make your lips look plumper. It’s also pretty sheer -more so than Freckletone, which is also a lustre finish.
Here’s a swatch, in natural lighting. For reference, I’m NC 40-42.
That’s two swipes of the product. I’ve tried to build the color by swiping on some more but I find that it makes little difference by way of opacity and color pay-off.
It does look very natural, and it looks amazing when paired with a taupe lip liner. I imagine this working for those who like to do the “no make-up” make-up look, and it would also be great for classic bridal.
It’s also comfortable to wear. The formula is light, slightly hydrating, and not the least bit sticky.
I thought Hug Me would be one of those low-maintenance lip products that you swipe on in the morning then forget about, just because it’s a safe color and the formula’s so pleasant. But I do a touch-up every other hour because it transfers onto just about everything. Minus the constant touch-ups, it lasts for about two to three hours. Again, it’s a lustre finish, which isn’t really known for staying power.
Reach for this lipstick if you want to give your lips a break from heavier formulas like matte or satin, and if you want something more sheer. Pair it with some lip liner or wear it over another color, and you’re good to go.
